Wind Regions of West Australia
Australia as a whole is seperated into the four wind regions of A - B - C and D. These are explained as follows:
Region A - being > 30° latitude; interior of Australia; southern coastal areas. For Western Australia Region A covers;
- a latitude > 30° which is just south of Green Heads or,
- a latitude of between 25° and 30° which is just north of Green Heads and south of Gascoyne Junction and you are more than 100km from the coast or,
- a latitude between 20° and 25°, which is just north of Gascoyne Junction and just south of Cape Keraudren, and more than 150km inland from the coast or,
- a latitude < 20° being north of Cape Keraudren and inland > 100km from the coast.
Note: Region A is seperated into Regions A1 through A7 based primarily on wind direction.
Region B - being < 30° latitude; coastal areas of northern Australia that do not fall into cyclonic regions. For Western Australia Region B covers;
- a latitude of between 27° and 30° which is just north of Green Heads and just south of Nerren and within 100km from the coast or,
- a latitude of between 25° and 27° being just north of Nerren and just south of Gascoyne Junction and are within the coastal strip of > 50km and < 100km or'
- a latitude of between 20° and 25° which is just north of Gascoyne Junction and just south of Cape Keraudren and are within the costal strip of > 100km and < 150km or,
- a latitude < 20° being just north of Cape Keraudren and within the coastal strip of > 50km and < 100km.
Region C - being coastal areas of northern Australia that fall into cyclonic regions < 25° on the east coast and < 27° on the west coast of Australia. For Western Australia Region C covers;
- a latitude of between 25° and 27° being just north of Nerran and just south of Gascoyne Junction and within the coastal strip of < 50km or,
- a latitude of between 20° and 25° being just north of Gascoyne Junction and just south of Cape Keraudren and within the coastal strip of > 50km and < 100km or,
- a latitude < 20° being north of Cape Keraudren and within the coastal strip < 50km.
Region D - being > 20° and < 25° coastal western Australia which is classed as severe cyclonic. For Western Australia Region D covers;
- a latitude of between 20° and 25° being just north of Gascoyne Junction and just south of Cape Keraudren and withina coastal strip of < 50km.
