Soil Classifications
In Australia soils are generally classified in based on the predominate particle size in accordance with AS1726 the Geotechnical Site Investigations Code.
Below indicated the approximate field and in situ test classifications of density for granular soils (sands) and shear and compressive strengths for clays and silts.
Notes:
Rock is excluded in this classifaction section.
