Project engineers Connell Wagner needed to keep the portal column frame foundation footing sizes to a minimum whilst at the same time provide significant uplift resistance due to potential wind loads on the structure. Screwpile Australia designed manufactured and installed a tension screwpile solution that was installed quickly even though a high watertable existed. The ability to install high capacity tension piles with a small 5 tonne mini excavator proved beneficial on the fighter jet apron as there was no impact to existing surfaces or interference with flight operations.
PRECISION WEAPONS FACILITY - AUSTRALIAN NAVY GARDEN ISLAND BASE
The silty sand conditions at Garden Island had insufficient bearing capacity to facilitate the specified limited foundation settlement needed for the precision weapons facility. Project engineers Connell Wagners specified screwpiles as part of the foundations design. Screwpile Australia designed, manufactured, installed a piling solution that performed in accordance with the limited settlement criteria.

WESTERN POWER TRANSMISSION TOWERS - WA RIVER CROSSINGS
Approximately 20 towers required deep piled foundations over rivers throughout Western Australia. Each transmission tower base had to accommodate large bisector loads. Project engineers Maunsel specified a 1 in 100 year flooding scour allowance of up to 1.0m to the underside of concrete pile cap due to tower locations. Foundation design life specification was in excess of 100 years. Screwpiles were designed for large compression, tension and shear loads and installed to depths in excess of 18.0m.
