Marquee's & Shade Structures

Many types of structures are subjected to wind loadings, such as is the case for the famous HMS Sydney Memorial Structure located high above windy Geraldton on the West Australia coast. Loose dunal type sands were another reason our screwpiles were selected as the preferred solution.

Some of the largest marquee structures in existence are the Cirque de Soleil tents.  Screwpile Australia has been commissioned to install raked deep-parameter tension screwpiles and 600kN King Pole tension screwpiles.  Screwpiles needed to be installed deep to cater for the saturated reclaimed river silty sand located along Riverside Drive in the city of Perth. When the show was over the screwpiles were removed ready for next year, leaving the area largely undisturbed.

Screwpiles are often used where large tents and marquees are located in potentially windy environments and where surface soil conditions are not suitable for the use of spikes.  Spikes are a favourite of many marquee owners, as they can be pulled up using on-site machinery.  However, the effectiveness of these spikes is often in question as capacities are greatly compromised by soft surface soils, as is the case in saturated clays etc. Screwpiles however, are unaffected, as they are installed in the direct line of pull, eliminating lateral forces on the anchors.
