Cyclonic Foundations

Australia, land of plenty and that includes wind.  Our coastal regions can be buffeted by strong winds and in recent years destructive storms have become more frequent.

Parts of the North West of Western Australia, the Northern Territory and North Queensland are subjected to cyclone seasons and foundation design needs to accommodate significant uplift and horizontal forces.  Australia is divided up into "Wind Regions" as per the map below.  A download of this map is also available on this page.

Since 1996 Screwpile Australia has been designing manufacturing and installing screwpiles to residential housing, commercial properties, mining infrastructure such as conveyors and tressles, as well as mining camp donga's of all sizes.  In recent years mining camps have changed significantly with more facilities on offer.  Donga's are being transformed into accommodation villages.

Most of these areas are classed as remote so large volumes of concrete are expensive, anywhere from $380.00M3 to $850.00M3 layed.  A screwpile solution is generally much more economical.

Soil Sites

Screwpile foundations can be supplied with shop welded connecting plates and brackets enabling easy connection to structures such as conveyors, trusses and underfloor beams such as the case in transportable type buildings.

Screwpile Australia has a range of patent pending Qwik-Connect interface brackets that enable fast anchor foundation connection where concrete pile caps are not required.

Rock Sites

Sites consisting of various rock stratum require a different approach.  Whilst our patented screwpile RET technology is designed to engage rock it is appropriate for compression piles.

Drilled & grouted rock anchors are the most appropriate for these sites.  The STG group can design and install grouted rock anchors to suit such applications.
