Boundary Easement Screwpiles
Structural surcharge loads imposed on easements are easily addressed through the use of screwpiles. Structures within easements generally piling to transfer surcharge loads below a designated line of influence. Screwpiling will need to be founded a minimum of 0.5m - 1.0m below the line of influence and in certain case pile depths will need to be greater.
For construction near buried services such as sewers and drainage regulatory authorities will require an approval process prior to construction licences being issued. Screwpile Australia through its associate company Foundation Engineering Pty Ltd can provide the necessary drawings and design certification for your submission. Alternatively you can ask your preferred consulting engineer to provide the necessary documentation.
Screwpiling is required for two specific reasons:
- To ensure a structures surcharge load does not impact on or cause damage to a sewer or services infrastructure.
- To ensure a structures surcharge load does not impact on future excavations that may be required. (Note: It is an engineering and OHS&R requirement that box trench shoring be used in any excavation at these locations.)
In the case of open drains with a batter embankment close to a new structures foundations a screwpiled solution will also be require as a structures loads need to be transferred to a depth where the load will not influence the stability of the embankment.
