There are a number of early key indicators that can assist in determining whether as site has the potential for acid sulphate soils. Indicators such as sulfur smelling water and or stained soil. It is important not to disturb soil or induce oxygen into the soil without first understanding the ramifications of any works. For sites with specific concerns are likely to require water and excavation management plans in place prior to any works commencing.

The testing regeme for investigation PASS and AASS can be extensive and the degree of testing required is generally site specific. A word of caution is that early assessment is extremely important and testing may not be conclusive.
